Global Network Management project promotes international partnering of Finnish ICT companies

In the intense competition of research funding from Liito -technology program by Tekes, Global Network Management project distinguished itself from the competitors due to its managerially relevant content and international business knowledge.

Global Network Management is organized as a joint effort of Lappeenranta University of Technology and Turku School of Economics. The aim of the project is to clarify how a company can create, develop and maintain a successful business that is based on technology, know-how and partnerships in a global environment. This research problem is approached for example by studying international partner management, software product development and outsourcing. In addition, the aim is to transfer the best practices of networking and international growth to knowledge-intensive companies in order to enhance their competitiveness and furthermore their ability to succeed. As a new venture, the Global Network Management project strengthens the research efforts of the organizing universities towards international business and ICT domain –related knowledge.

The core research group of seven researchers is accompanied by more than ten specialists in international business from the both participating universities. In addition, the selected international research partner universities enable conducting multinational comparison studies and support the improvement of the business-related capabilities of the participating companies.

The project has received very positive interest by the Finnish knowledge-intensive companies, since in addition to technological know-how these companies face business-related challenges that can be solved through research.

- Partnerships are of primary importance for any internationalizing ICT company. We, for example, have more than 20 international partners and they generate more than third of our annual turnover. Thus, the cooperation with the universities fits well to our business development needs,

notes director Risto Räty from Tekla Plc.

The total budget of the Global Network Management project is 660,000 euros. The main part of the financing comes from the funds of the business-related technology program Liito of Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Tekes). In addition, 11 Finnish knowledge-intensive companies as well as private funds from Foundation for Economic Education participate in financing the project.

In the intense competition of research funding, Global Network Management project distinguished itself from the competitors due to its managerially relevant content and international business knowledge. An additional strength of the project is its focus on small companies and their business development challenges.
